Synopsis: 

A play about power, ambition, political secrets, ruthlessness and the race for the presidency, Gore Vidal’s The Best Man was Vidal’s second play following the success of his international comedy hit, Visit to a Small Planet. Starring Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Candice Bergen, five time Tony Award winner Angela Lansbury, Tony and Emmy Award winner John Larroquette, and Drama Desk Award winner and Academy Award nominee Michael McKean will join the previously announced James Earl Jones.

    April 1, 2012: Yards and yards of patriotic bunting stun the senses as you enter the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater, where a revival of “Gore Vidal’s The Best Man” opened on Sunday night. Television monitors displaying black-and-white footage hang from boxes that frame the stage, and the usher handing you your program wears a festive boater with red, white and blue trim. The aim is to give the audience a sense of being present at a presidential nominating convention in Philadelphia in 1960, where the play is set.
