Synopsis: Harrowing and unpredictable, TYSON vs. ALI brings the debate heard in hundreds of barbershops across America to life – placing these two giants in the ring together in a way no one has previously imagined. A volatile combination of dance, theater, and new-media stagecraft, the palpable emotional and physical experience of boxing is examined through the larger-than-life personas of Iron Mike and The Greatest. With choreography by Laura K. Nicoll and script by Frank Boudreaux, leather hits flesh for 9 rounds of action as the boxers spar with each other, interpreting these men and their myths.

NEW YORK TIMES REVIEW:

"The sweat, the combativeness and even the body blows feel mighty real, but the fight itself is pure fantasy in Tyson vs. Ali, a sleek mixed-media meditation on a boxing bout that never was, and never could have been. Currently bobbing and weaving around a simulated ring at the 3LD Art & Technology Center in Lower Manhattan, the production is conceived and directed by Reid Farrington, who deftly splices together video footage and live performance to offer a prismatic take on a theoretical matchup of Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali, two of the great names in boxing history."

WALL STREET JOURNAL REVIEW:

"It is one of the most enduring questions in boxing: Who would win if Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson could face off? In their primes at different times, the heavyweight champions never met in the ring. A multimedia performance opening Friday at the 3LD Art & Technology Center in Lower Manhattan, Tyson vs. Ali, imagines what might have been."

EXETUNT REVIEW:

"Prizefighters aren’t usually revered for the richness of their interior lives. It’s a stereotype that Tyson vs. Ali wants to put on the ropes. Kicking off the 2014 edition of PS 122’s COIL festival, this production from 3-Legged Dog knows how to throw a punch, in more ways than one."
