Synopsis: The Athens University basketball team hasn't won a game in 30 years. But when spunky transfer student Lysistrata Jones dares the squad's fed-up girlfriends to stop "giving it up" to their boyfriends until they win a game, their legendary losing streak could be coming to an end. Join Lyssie and her girl-power posse court side for the New York City premiere of this boisterous new pop musical comedy. Adapted from Aristophanes' comedy, Lysistrata, Tony-nominated bookwriter Douglas Carter Beane, The Little Dog Laughed and composer-lyricist Lewis Flinn, Divine Sister have given the classic Greek tale a riotous new twist. Lysistrata Jones takes student activism to a whole new level and celebrates the journey of discovering and embracing who you truly are. Do your Duty, no more Booty!

NEW YORK TIMES REVIEW:

"No matter what Michelle Obama keeps telling us about our dangerous diets, there are times when a person craves nothing so much as a long swig of soda pop. Especially now that summer’s upon us, don’t you feel the need for something cool and sweet and fizzy, bursting with delicious empty calories? "

VARIETY REVIEW:

"Adaptation is simple, and simplistic. (Opening lyric: "Some play by Aristophanes, he's dead so we do what we please, something that's old and so arcane, so sue us it's public domain.") The Spartans of Athens U. haven't won a game in 30 years; Ms. Jones, hook-up of the center, searches for some way to get the boys to try harder, and finds it in the SparkNotes for "Lysistrata.""

HOLLYWOOD REPORTER REVIEW:

"There's an obscene amount of fun being had in a church gymnasium on Washington Square South in Lysistrata Jones, a sassy new quasi-teen musical by composer-lyricist Lewis Flinn and book writer Douglas Carter Beane. The latter's ingenious reinvention of Xanadu was Broadway's giddiest surprise a few seasons back, and his sharp rewrite helped redeem Sister Acton its path to New York."

THEATERMANIA REVIEW:

"Bookwriter Douglas Carter Beane and songwriter Lewis Finn bring a ribald piece of fourth century B.C. Greek comedy squarely into the 21st Century with Lysistrata Jones, a new musical that the Transport Group is offering in a boisterous site-specific production in the gymnasium at Judson Memorial Church. BACKSTAGE REVIEW:

"With "Lysistrata Jones," Douglas Carter Beane returns to the same wacky mix of Greek legends and pop culture he employed so successfully in "Xanadu." That campy Broadway musical hit had a grade-Z 1980s cult film for its basis. This venture, featuring a book by the witty Beane and a rollicking rock score by Lewis Flinn, has a slightly more upscale pedigree."
