  Synopsis
Perfect Crime Off-Broadway

Shakespeare's delightful comedy of disguised identity and wooing by proxy is directed by RSC Artistic Director Michael Boyd, whose production reflects the play's somber historical context while capturing the liberating power of love. The production features Katy Stephens as an "excellent" Rosalind/Ganymede; Jonjo O'Neill as Orlando; Richard Katz as Touchstone; Mariah Gale as Celia; Geoffrey Freshwater as Corin; Forbes Masson as Jaques; Clarence Smith as Duke Ferdinand; Sandy Neilson as Duke Frederick; Charles Aitken as Oliver; James Tucker as Silvius, and Christine Entwisle as Phoebe.

Love’s Hard, Comic Work, on a Stage Most Worldly

*By CHARLES ISHERWOOD
Published: July 8, 2011

"The winter’s wind seems particularly biting in the forest of Arden that has sprung up in the Park Avenue Armory, just as the summer’s heat has begun to reach a peak. If you’re looking for an escape from swampy weather, the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of “As You Like It” might prove just the ticket. Michael Boyd’s staging of one of Shakespeare’s most joyous comedies seems determined to remind us of the high cost of love’s pleasures, to the point that you begin to wonder if the prize could ever be worth the perils endured. The production emanates a distinct, unsettling chill, at least until the courtiers and rustics seeking love and sustenance in the woods begin to see a few green leaves sprouting from the trees, along with all that poetry.
